PSBI S39 YP Comp review!

Sponsored by the Paddy Says Buy Irish fed (5633), a youth pull competition took place on the Irish forum during the course of season 39. The goal was simple – pull a youth player every week (or attempt to), and update your post with his details. Sounds simple right? It was! Read on to find out how it went.

Buoyed by the offer of 3 months free supporter for the winner, things got off to a good start when 23 eager competitors signed up to take part. It turned out several of our entrants were not that eager after all, suffering from apparent stage fright and failing to register a pull all season - GM-TyrantQ, conigli, and Corcaigh to name and shame a few! Tut tut. The competition continued unabashed though, however we soon suffered more fallers - Jstokes bowed out early with a meagre total of 2 registered pulls, while dubdiego and kram101 didn’t fare much better having 4 and 5 pulls respectively. Jaygeekay and Peetay managed to keep their minds on the task at hand, both managing to keep it up for the majority of the session, sorry season, each registering 9 pulls. borat_sagdiyev was our next casuality, his stretch waned and finally ground to a halt after registering 11 pulls. Flynner, a contestant of renowned pulling ability and an early favourite in the betting, was next to go, exiting the competition after 12 pulls. Our runner up was Paffu, who performed admirably for the whole season until a momentary lapse in concentration cost him – we’ve all been there – 15 pulls is nothing to be ashamed of though and Paffu can be proud of his efforts.

That left us with 9 contestants who, for 16 straight weeks, managed to knock out a youth pull as if it were clockwork– well done and thank you to all! The master pullers included doubs, grahamkeatley, obi007, Don_Vit0, and Teamrhombus. The remaining 4 entrants were non-supporters and thus qualified for the prize.

First up we had mao77, manager of leovaleisa (281192) in division IV.15. Mao had a horrible season of pulling, his coaches finding nothing 3 times, and locating talent he deemed sackable on the spot a further 3 times. He did manage to uncover a potentially excellent 15 year old winger in week 7 though so not all bad. You can view Mao’s pulls here (16053351.11).

Ruadan, manager of Breaffy United (280194) in division II.7 was our next winner. Ruadans scouts managed to track him down a player every week bar 2, however only 5 of the youths offered were 15 (ideal YP age) – he went on one stretch of 3 weeks where each pull was older than 17.80! A tough season for Ruadan pulls wise then, with his only decent pulls being two 15 year old inadequate all rounders. You can view Ruadan’s pulls here (16053351.14).

The Kilkenny Cubs, run by Tigron (12222599) were the source of our next perfect set of 16 pulls. Tigron fared better than the lads above, his scouts having offered him a player every week. The output wasn’t great though - five of them were 15 and Tigron only had a pair of young defenders and a solid winger to show for his efforts at seasons end. You can view Tigron’s pulls here (16053351.27).

Our final winner was h-t_master, manager of St Aidan's Community School (279935), who ply their trade in IV.46. h-t_master, like Tigron, was offered a player every week, but unfortunately (and also like Tigron) that didn’t mean success – he only had a pair of young playmakers to show for his efforts. His scouts provided him with the following slap in the face in the final week of the season – “If he develops well, I would say this chap can emerge with wretched Winger before joining the senior squad”. You can view h-t_masters’ pulls here (16053351.29).

A tough seasons of pulling for our “winners” then, but hopefully the prize of one month’s supporter each (as decided by the winners themselves), and an opportunity to win a further 3 months supporter by contributing to PSBI, will help keep their chins up!

Once again, thank you to everyone for taking part – much appreciated. Remember pulling is good for you! The competition itself will not be run during season 40, but will be back in season 41 – hope to see you all then!
